How To Stay Healthy This Winter

0Shares

Winter can pose a rather trying time for people who are trying to stay healthy and avoid all the common bugs and germs. Even with the best intentions, a trip to the urgent care clinic is relatively common during cold and flu season. If you’re looking to cut down on the amount of time you spend sick this winter, there are some steps you can take. By using these, you may just cut down on trips to the clinic.

Amp Up Your Handwashing

Handwashing is an effective way to stop the spread of germs and in the dead of winter when germs are running rampant, it’s actually your best form of defense. Because it’s not always possible to wash your hands immediately, it’s a good idea to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you. Keep one in your purse, school bag, in the car, and even at your desk in the office. Each time you touch objects that others have access to, it’s a good idea to sanitize or wash your hands.

Take Vitamins

Vitamins are useful all year round, whether it’s cold and flu season or not. However, during the time when germs are more prevalent, these vitamins can help to bolster your immune system. Even if you do catch a cold or flu bug, vitamins can often help to shorten the length and severity of the illness.

People often assume that they get enough vitamins and nutrients through their food, but if you take a closer look, there’s a good chance there are areas you’re lacking in.

Include Exercise in Your Routine

Exercise is an excellent way to keep your body healthy inside and out. It allows your blood to get flowing which then allows it to search for any viruses and bacteria that may be lurking. Did you know that if you have a mild cold it’s still recommended that you keep up with exercise? As long as you don’t have a fever and are stuck in bed, exercise will continue to help.

Stay Hydrated

Now is not the time to get lazy about hydrating your body. Drinking enough water each day (eight glasses), will help your kidneys to flush out any unwanted and harmful toxins. Even if you’re already sick, hydrating your body will help to get rid of the infection.

Avoid Getting Run Down

Of course, just about the worst thing you can do is allow your body to get tired and run down. This pretty much sets you up for disaster. Germs will be able to attack and your body won’t have the energy to fight back. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating food that provides you with energy, and doing your best to combat stress.

The Effort Pays Off

By taking these steps, you will be doing your part to prevent yourself from getting sick, or at least shorten the length of time you do spend feeling under the weather. These are measures you can use all year-round to ensure you stay healthy.
