Flu isn’t always a necessary consequence of rainy days or winter and there are ways people can do to reduce their risk. With the arrival of cold winter days, people should avoid getting sick. Here are experts recommendation to avoid being sick.

  1. Wash our hands: Seasonal flu and cold virus could spread through handshaking or touching contaminated objects. Virus may enter our mouth or nose if we neglect to maintain our hygiene. Water and soap won’t kill virus; but they could wash away any virus accumulation we get from touching dried saliva or mucus on someone’s hands. People should wash their hands for at least 30 seconds with good soap and warm water to minimize virus concentration on their hands.
  2. Get a flu shot: People should get a flu shot immediately when it becomes available in the area. Elderly and children are especially susceptible to seasonal flue. Experts recommend healthy individuals above six months of age and older to get annual flu shot.
  3. Avoid unnecessary contact: Stay away from people who have the flu virus whenever possible. People who find themselves getting sick should immediately stay at home and avoid spreading the disease. Remind family members and friends to cover their nose and mouth with tissue or upper sleeve if they cough or sneeze.
