How to choose best travel gear?

Going on a hike is not easy. Especially for the beginner. It should be understood that the tourist trip involves being in nature for a long time without the usual amenities and opportunities. Therefore, while packing, you should take care in advance about the acquisition of gear with which life in nature will be more comfortable and safe. In case you are traveling to Dominican Republic, you can get a comfortable trip with Honda Civic Santo Domongo rent a car and enjoy your stay!

The most important items of tourist equipment are presented below. Without this modest set, even one night spent in the woods, can permanently discourage the desire to repeat this adventure.

Individual equipment:

  1. Backpack

An ideal backpack has a volume of about 80 liters and a weight of no more than 2 kg. Important are reliable fittings, convenient belt, correct geometry, power frame of the sling. Not important or not needed are pockets and internal partitions, additional entrances, soft back, height adjustment, tightly sewn top flap.

  1. Sleeping bag

Collect money and get a branded downy sleeping bag weighing from 1.1 to 1.5 kg. It covers the temperature range from +20 to -15. This sleeping bag would suit all occasions! Do not be afraid of moisture, as you can just buy a sand bag for a sleeping bag.

  1. Tent

The tent should weight no more than 1 kg per person. It means that double tent should not weigh more than 2kg. Silicone is better than PU. The more ventilation, the better – do not be afraid to choose the one with mesh walls.

  1. Mat

A travel mat is a type of equipment used in trips to protect the human body from the cold surface of the earth. Its moisture-proof properties do not allow moisture to penetrate the surface of the mat, thus protecting the body from getting wet during rain and snow. Mats can be used both in the tent and outside. Some of them could be used, for example, to protect the burner from blowing the flame by the wind while cooking. Mostly, mats can be divided into self-inflating and foamed polymers.

  1. Raincoat

When going hiking in the warm months, be sure to take care of your protection from rain. Membrane clothing and raincoats were created as weather protection for outdoor enthusiasts. Membrane clothing is expensive. The poncho capes or raincoats are much cheaper. In the summer, it is better to take a poncho with you rather than a jacket.

Thanks to its special design, the poncho is more versatile than a raincoat; it has a built-in extra space for a backpack on its back, preventing it from getting wet. The materials used for the manufacture of poncho capes are very light, sufficiently durable, and are treated with moisture protection agents. ‘Ripstop’ technology can be used in fabrics, which keeps the fabric from creeping through the cut. Poncho and raincoats are very compact and light in weight. They fold into a small handbag.

  1. Trekking boots

They should be only leather – no fabric inserts and a minimum of seams and decor. Boots should have lining with Gore-Tex. The sole should bend – do not buy climbing shoes for hiking. Rubber edging is not important. German shoes are better than Italian shoes.

  1. Hiking sneakers

You can take sneakers for running. No membranes (Gortex and others) – the leg does not breathe in them. No rubber and sticky tape – usual laces are the best. Small mesh is better than large mesh – there would be less garbage in shoes.

  1. Thermal underwear

Choose a thermal underwear of medium thickness (not very thick, and not the thinnest). Manufacturer does not matter. The loin should be well covered, i.e. elongated sweaters are better. There should be not a single gram of cotton! If you are allergic to synthetics, try merino wool.

  1. Head Torch

Helmet lamp in any camping trip will always be your great helper. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that you can see everything you need, while leaving your hands free. If you have a flashlight and you are in doubt of buying a head torch, please note that during a hike both hands are often needed free.

Before choosing a flashlight, you should think about its purpose. Headlamps can be used both in everyday life and in tourism, mountaineering and speleology. Here it is necessary to take into account all the characteristics in the complex.

  • Hiking thermos

It is necessary on ascents and in cold hikes, when the average daily temperature is below +5. Important is a simple cork without buttons, no glass. Before the hike, be sure to check if it preserves heat.

  • Drinking system

Buy a Source or Deuter drinking system (they are the same). Drinking system really helps in hot trips and is almost not needed in the cold zone, where the daily temperature is below +10.

Group tourist equipment:

  • A tent
  • A saw
  • An ax
  • Camping Kit
  • Hiking pot
  • Torch Burners
  • Thermos.

Anyway, the most important thing in the tourist package: a tent and a sleeping bag. Even if the trip was conceived in spring or summer and not far in the mountains, a sleeping bag with insulation, for example, from a padding polyester or from natural fluff (in winter) is needed. The tent should also not be cold, so choose those that are made of polyamide or polyester fabrics. This type of fabric does not get wet in the rain and retains heat well inside. The density of weaving in synthetic tents is very high, so even in case of heavy rain it will be warm and dry inside your tourist cottage. Pay attention to the fact that the tent should be treated with a protective impregnation of silicone or other raw materials. Having even minimal tourist package, you can have the best adventure ever.
