New Toyota Corolla Altis – An Overall Better Package

Toyota Corolla Altis, which was originally introduced in 1966 made its way to India in the year 2003. The sedan which has now reached its eleventh generation had always been pretty stylish and luxurious sporting a revolutionary design. Just last year Toyota again gave the car a much needed uplift and an all-new 2014 Corolla Altis was out in May 2014. The new sedan takes its predecessor’s name a score higher as it gets a major design update and a host of new features. Let us briefly run through the details of the new model.

Interior

Corolla Altis 2014 is longer and wider and the wheelbase too is greater than before. The increased dimensions add to its imposing look in addition to a larger interior cabin. The typical Toyota style front radiator grille is now smiley-shaped and is edged by slim and upswept daytime running LED lights which are automatic. The front bumper is also altered a bit. The side profile is enhanced by flared wheel arches, body coloured door handles and ORVMs mounted with turn indicators. The rear now looks more horizontal, thanks to the wide tail lamps.

Exterior

Toyota Corolla Altis has always been a spacious car and with increased dimensions there is more of it now. The rear leg space and boot capacity has improved considerably (upto 470 litres!). Moreover the rear seats can be reclined now. A retractable manually operated rear sunscreen adds to the comfort of rear passengers. Toyota knows that it is primarily a chauffeur driven car and has taken care to provide all comfort to its rear passengers.

Features

The uncluttered cabin gets a block like dashboard which is divided into multiple layers of textures and shades. The twin-pod designed instrument cluster is user friendly and offers a lot of information. A large 7-inch touch screen with music, Bluetooth, telephony and Aux-in and steering mounted music and cruise controls makes the journey truly pleasurable. Other smart features are ABS with EBD, power windows and steering, airbags, alloy wheels, paddle shifters, power pocket, automatic AC with heater, push start/stop button, Wireless Door Lock with Smart Entry, Immobilizer & Alarm and driver side one Touch Up/Down with Jam Protection Windows.

Engine

The mechanics have been carried over from the old model without much change. The company continues to sell the sedan in the same 1.8-litre dual VVT-I petrol motor and 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine. The petrol variants get a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 7-speed sequential automatic. Sadly the less powerful diesel ones miss out the automatic transmission option.

Pricing

The five petrol variants and three diesel trims fall in the price range of Rs 11.99 to Rs 17 lakhs approximately. Now you can also check and buy new motor bikes in india online.
