Now on to some simple information about individual health insurance in the state of Florida.
Why would you choose individual/family insurance over group insurance?
- If health insurance is not provided to you by an employer on a group plan.
- You are a small business that does not have enough employees to justify enrolling in and paying for a group plan.
- You recently lost your job, are healthy and do not wish to choose COBRA because it is too expensive.
- If your employer does not pay for your spouse/dependents and you want to find something more affordable than what they are offering.
What benefits do these plans offer compared to a group plan?
- They are portable. The health insurance plan is yours to keep, even if you leave the company you are working for.
- You are able to tailor the plans to your specific needs.
What kind of plans are there?
1. Flat or High Deductible plans:
- You will have a deductible of your choosing. They typically range anywhere from $500 to $10,000.
- The most popular flat deductible plan is a 100% plan. An example of it is below.
- Less the deductible you choose, the plan covers you for major medical bills.
