ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My inspiration comes from my dreams. I’ve been studying dream interpretation for over seven years. Dreams not only come when I am sleep – but, day dreams happen as well. This has helped me create better visual for my writing. As a first time writer, a no body I’ve struggled to get an agency to publish my book. When a friend came out and said to me. “Why not publish it yourself?”
What a great Idea.
Now this story only took me three and half days to write. How can that be? Not as easy as it sounds. My visions first came September 2001, from California I moved to Tampa, FL. You can say the natives their really enjoy; Pirates and Mermaids so much. They even have a festival every year called Gasparilla. By re-enacting true history of when the Spanish pirates invaded Tampa Bay.
Six months later. I moved back to California. Working temporary jobs, I knew I had to start doing something creative. I was holding so much inside me and did not know how to let it all out. One Saturday afternoon, I went into a book store and purchasing “Children Writers & Illustrator Market.” It had great tips on how to unlock writers block. One of the suggestions was to go teach at a conservatory for young performers.
So I signed up to volunteer at SAG conservatory located at AFI Hollywood, CA. teaching young performers; auditions, meditate and play-rolls. This took place in the fall of 2005, for about five exclusive weeks. Two days after last day of class. I wrote and wrote until this all made since. I was impressed with myself and grateful for the great tips the book offered.
Even the illustrations were created by me. I have to say; I did not know I had it in me. For I have a secret to share with you. Growing up I had a speech problem and I always had trouble saying words out loud in class. I was embarrassed for I knew I was the slowest reader in class. Not only was I the slowest, I saw words backwards and even interpret them backwards.
Till this day, I still need to think ten times harder of what I comprehend. Or, no one will understand me. So all I have to say to you is NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS.
