Now there is nothing wrong with have a GMAIL account and if anything, it is a blessing in disguise because it has a good spam filter. Occasionally though some of that spam gets through the system and ends up in my normal desktop mail client. On the desktop I have favoured Windows Live Mail, which is a departure from Incredimail which I had used for several years until they got greedy and charge to have the junk mail filter.
