Wasn't it just Christmas yesterday?

As much as I miss barefoot Summer days by this time of the year, I do enjoy February. Probably because my wedding anniversary is in Feb. and Hubby and I always go somewhere for a few days. It's something to look forward to and it really does help us to reconnect with each other. No distractions, no problems, no computer, no dirty dishes (except those that other folks have to wash:) and if we want..no phone but, that's next to impossible to get away from. Erica (our daughter) will be home while we're away, so I won't worry as much about our son. I shouldn't worry I know, he's 18 but, really that's all the more reason to worry. know what I mean?

We saw *Stranger than Fiction* last night. I thought it was excellent! Will Ferrell was great as usual, even though he wasn't playing a comedy role. And CUTE! Boy, howdy, was he ever attractive! Dustin Hoffman's character was endearing, as was the young woman who played Ferrell's love interest. Her name is Maggie Gyllenhaal. I'd never heard of her but, I loved her character. Very earthy, witty & full of spunk!

We finally got a smidge of snow♥ Not nearly enough for my taste but, it will have to do. At least the holly and pine trees look pretty. I say if it's going to be cold, we might as well have snow!

I hope February is good to everyone!

Top 20 Antioxidants

Finally--following what is likely the largest antioxidant study in history--the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has produced a list of the 20 most antioxidant-rich foods. You may have guessed that blueberries rank high. But some of the findings will surprise you.

The study examined more than 100 types of fruits, vegetables, berries, nuts and spices. Winners included artichokes, russet potatoes and ground cloves, among other shockers, as top food sources of antioxidants. In the end, small red beans took the top spot, narrowly beating out wild blueberries as the food with the highest concentration of disease-fighting compounds per serving.

A prevailing but controversial theory holds that antioxidants--non-vitamin nutrients that abound in some foods--may benefit the body by providing protection against oxidation, a process that may be linked to conditions such as cancer, heart disease and aging. Found most often in colorful produce, antioxidants are also available in powdered "green" supplements and pills.

The USDA study was published in the June 2004 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Here's the full list, starting with the richest source of antioxidants:

* Small red beans (dried)

* Wild blueberries

* Red kidney beans

* Pinto beans

* Blueberries (cultivated)

* Cranberries

* Artichokes (cooked)

* Blackberries

* Prunes

* Raspberries

* Strawberries

* Red delicious apples

* Granny Smith apples

* Pecans

* Sweet cherries

* Black plums

* Russet potatoes (cooked)

* Black beans (dried)

* Plums

* Gala apples

from Better Nutrition

I'm back in Mimi mode today. Baby Girl's Mommy is a respiratory therapist student who is doing clinical rotations. Her rotations are in our hospital this week. So in just a bit, I'm meeting her at the hospital to pick up the sugar lump. Our Daughter, Son in law and Baby Girl actually live in a different state than we do but, we live very near the state line, so it's not quite as bad as it might seem. Still, it's just far enough to make it inconvenient but, always oh so worth it :)

Lexy is on her way to being potty trained and it's bitter cold, so with both those things in mind, I think we'll stay home today. We'll watch Bear in the big blue house, Barney and a sundry of other brightly colored creatures on video. We'll color in coloring books, put together puzzles, read books and take naps.

I love being a Mimi.

Did anyone see American Idol last night? I don't enjoy this part of the show very much. I can't imagine having to actually sit there for hours while some of those clowns come in and "sing" The one that really got me last night was the juggling 16 yr. old boy who came out of the room, cursing to the top of his lungs and then collapsed into a sobbing heap! He needs some serious help. Did you hear him say, "I wanted to start out famous" I don't know what to say to that? Don't most aspiring singers "want" to start out famous? It usually doesn't work that way.
I'm not even sure I should admit to watching AI.

Good Gravy, I'm at the beginning of day 6! I know y'all are gonna get sick of hearing this but, it's very theraputic for me to keep track of the days. *clears throat* I'm quite proud of myself :)

Can you believe I've smoked for 25 years? ACK! I would quit when I was pregnant and I didn't smoke for about 2 years when I was married the first time but, other than that, I've been a smoker longer than I haven't! I'd say my lungs deserve a break.

Today I'm starting a pilates and yoga class, right here in my livingroom. :) I bought a tape to work out to ;) I'm actually keeping my New Year's resolutions for once!

Good Morning !!

It's really quiet around here this morning, unlike most Saturdays. Tony had to work and our son is asleep, naturally, what else do teenagers do on Saturday mornings?

Poor guy, he and his girlfriend of 18 months just broke up. He's handling it well and yes he's young but, young broken hearts hurt too. I like Julie but, she was spoiled rotten and so used to getting her way. Whine a little, cry a little, stomp her feet and if that doesn't work, do it a lot, kind of spoiled rotten! She was always sweet to me and my husband though.

Our son is self sufficient, hard working, laid back, warm and easy going, he deserves someone with the same qualities. I know I'm his Mother and naturally I would say things like this but, I swear it's true Just to prove that I'm realistic about him, his bad qualities include...he's a sloppy (OMGosh, you should see and smell his room) and he has a potty mouth! I'd love to cure him of both! I should have given him a big bite of soap the first time I heard a curse word come out of his mouth.

Now my doc is saying I have a pinched nerve. Label it anything you like doc, but fix it now! It's slowing me down and I don't like it. I did manage to shop yesterday but, just as I was walking out the mall doors, my left leg went completely numb. I guess that's good timing, if there's ever a good time for your leg to go numb. We are now adding Physical Therapy to the arsenal of treaments. OY!

Tony and I are going away for 3 days next month to celebrate our anniversary. We do this every year. This year we're going to a resort and with any luck, we'll get to snow ski. (that is if my leg, back and the weather cooperate) I always look so forward to these longish weekends! I try to come up with a unique gift idea for hubby every year. Last year I did some photos of me with his plane and "just me" I can show you the one of me, him and airplane. I did the photography and a dear friend of mine did the special effects stuff. Whatever you call it :) (Sweet Jeep/Wizard)
